Police State – Enough is Enough
I have been passively following the occupy movement, as many of you have been as well. However, I have become increasingly distressed by the way police forces and local governments have been handling the whole mess. It seems odd to me that there is not more of an outcry by citizens against a government that allows police to pepper-spray the elderly and peaceful protesters. This nation was built off of the hope and desire for freedom of speech, along with other inalienable rights. The meaning of this seems to have been lost in our nation. We as a people have the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and to freedom of speech. No one, not even the government that is designed to protect those rights can revoke them. This is an outrage that is against the constitution.
The protecting force of America is taking advantage of the citizens. I respect the job that police do. It takes a lot of courage and endurance to do a job no one else wants to do: stand in the face of danger to protect. Protecting is not what has been happening at places like University of California, Davis. The assault of peaceful protesters is not what protection means. Civil disobedience has changed this nation for the better and the attempt to stop it only indicates the degree to which our government is broken. We citizens are those who form and give power to the government. That is the foundation of a representative government. When that government stops representing its people then its time the people spoke up and made it listen.
To long the US government has done what IT wanted not what the PEOPLE want. This is a trend that must be checked before it grows anymore out of control. We all need to voice our opinion and let our government know that we will not be taken advantage of not will we be abused. Please send letters to your local officials and representatives. Let them know, in a civil and mature manner that you are not pleased with their actions and that we as a people demand change.
