Police State – Enough is Enough

             I have been passively following the occupy movement, as many of you have been as well. However, I have become increasingly distressed by the way police forces and local governments have been handling the whole mess. It seems odd to me that there is not more of an outcry by citizens against a government that allows police to pepper-spray the elderly and peaceful protesters. This nation was built off of the hope and desire for freedom of speech, along with other inalienable rights. The meaning of this seems to have been lost in our nation. We as a people have the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and to freedom of speech. No one, not even the government that is designed to protect those rights can revoke them. This is an outrage that is against the constitution.

            The protecting force of America is taking advantage of the citizens. I respect the job that police do. It takes a lot of courage and endurance to do a job no one else wants to do: stand in the face of danger to protect. Protecting is not what has been happening at places like University of California, Davis. The assault of peaceful protesters is not what protection means. Civil disobedience has changed this nation for the better and the attempt to stop it only indicates the degree to which our government is broken. We citizens are those who form and give power to the government. That is the foundation of a representative government. When that government stops representing its people then its time the people spoke up and made it listen.

            To long the US government has done what IT wanted not what the PEOPLE want.  This is a trend that must be checked before it grows anymore out of control. We all need to voice our opinion and let our government know that we will not be taken advantage of not will we be abused. Please send letters to your local officials and representatives. Let them know, in a civil and mature manner that you are not pleased with their actions and that we as a people demand change.

This power is granted to the people of the united states in our Declaration of Independence:

Love? Like? Need?

The whole concept of love is interesting and I have come to the conclusion that I want to learn more about the subject. I have questions that would be good to seen answered, or as much of an answer as you can get out of a philosopher. Why is it that We find someone attractive in the first place, the most obvious answer to me is biology. Perhaps this illusion we call attraction is merely a way to perpetuate the species. If that is true though then what of our cognitive power, and free will? Illusions as well? The type of people we find ourselves attracted to, is there simply a DNA thing or do we find their virtues endearing and there faults tolerable. Many of these questions stem from a biological stand point, but what about the psychological. If Person y really likes person x, person y attempts to date person x, then find out person x has a partner already. This seems natural to say that person x would not be available. Lets say that after finding this person y is quite upset and decides that she will attempt to stop emotional feelings for person x and succeeds. Is this a biological function or is it that our intellectual abilities trump physical need? Has person y surpassed the need of the biological or is it simply a matter of timing and similarly matching DNA? I will do some reading and attempt to answer some of my questions. Then I will update my findings.

Political Violence and the Disturbing Lack of Awareness.

The atrocities of the world are a terrible crime, but it is even worse to forget they happened. I missed the anniversary by 17 days, sorry… But Tiananmen Square should not be forgotten and yet it has. It has only been 20 years, within most of our lifetimes and yet we have forgotten it. It’s a sad day when such hardship and such strength was shown by students determined to chain the wrongs in the world and yet they are thrown to the un-read pages of history. Acts such as the political protests in Iran and around the world should be known. The cries of the repressed looking for freedom that no one will help deliver ring around the world with no one to listen. Taking action is a choice and an important one. By keeping these people that have sacrificed in our minds keeps the fight and meaning behind it alive. You will not care in a year or two about the newest shirt you bought or getting the newest style of cell phone. Please don’t let these things fill your mind. take a min to actually remember the people that have suffered and died for not only the things you have now, but more importantly the ideal of Freedom that allows you to have the option to do what you want. I ask that everyone stop even for 30 seconds a day and pause to remember those who have died for an ideal that we take for granted.
